FRITJOF CAPRA TO VISIT SANSEPOLCRO ON SEPTEMBER 21, 2007
The world famous physicist will speak on September 21st as part of the lecture series “International Lectures on Nature and Human Ecology” organized by Aboca S.p.a.
On September 21, 2007 at 4 p.m., Fritjof Capra will speak at the second session of the lecture series “International Lectures on Nature and Human Ecology” organized by Aboca to discuss issues that reflect some of the company’s core values: the relationship between human beings and nature and eco-sustainability.
The Austrian physicist, who is the founder and director of the Center for Ecoliteracy in Berkeley California, will introduce The Science of Leonardo, his latest book which is scheduled to be released in September by Rizzoli: the uniqueness of the science and art contained in Leondardo’s mathematical drawings highlights the complexity of the language of nature and the need to find a different approach to reality, which must be viewed as a process to understand and imitate.
The author of the best-selling The Tao of Physics (1975) has dealt with political and economic issues related to sustainable development since the release of his second book, The Turning Point in 1982. Eco-sustainable growth in underdeveloped countries is a subject dear to Capra: more important than humanitarian aid, he believes Western nations should commit to spreading knowledge and the use of sustainable technology that respects nature.
The goal of these meetings (Ecology Professor Stephen Harding spoke at the first, which was held on June 8th) is to discuss the issues of sustainable development and the relationship between humankind and nature. These subjects symbolize the basic values of Aboca’s universe: organic agriculture, the development of 100% natural products and respect for the environment.
Discussants for the event will be Enrico Tiezzi, Professor of Physical Chemistry at the University of Siena and a member of the commission of 25 scientists that developed the concept of sustainable development and Giuseppe Longo, Chairman of the Department of the Theory of Information at the University of Trieste, who is currently studying the complex relationship between human beings and technology.
